Moore's Law will collapse in about 10 years - Then what ?

Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku has posted a video, below, discussing the collapse of Moore’s Law in about 10 years or so. Physicists have been predicting the end of Moore’s Law for quite some time but Kaku’s reasoning and the slowing down of processing power that we already see today lends some credibility to his claims. So what’s in store for computing in the post-silicon era? Multiple proposals have been laid out, including but not limited to optical computers, protein computers, DNA computers, molecular computers and quantum computers.

Ivy Bridge Now On Sale - April 29 2012

Scan are now retailing Ivy Bridge processors. For those interested in the i5200K replacement, Scan are selling the i53570K for £173.94 inc VAT. They also sell an OEM version for a few quid less. Engineering samples of Ivy Bridge chips have proven controversial with many people complaining about poor heat dissipation and inferior overclocks when compared to the Sandy Bridge chips. Anyone for Haswell ? Still, Ivy Bridge is a natural upgrade path for most PC buyers and should prove to be a very popular chip.

Nvidia GTX 680 Hits UK Stores - March 22 2012

The GTX 680 is faster, cooler, and quieter than the Radeon HD 7970. NVIDIA has landed the technical trifecta, and to top it off they’ve priced it comfortably below the competition. Yes this is an enthusiasts card, or maybe a card for those with money to burn, but if ultimate performance is your aim then you can't get better right now. The card pictured above is a PNY design which differs little from Nvidia's reference design other than the PNY logo. Scan are retailing this at £419.62. Expect some custom tweaked cards with improved cooling solutions to appear over the coming months.
